Ambitious Sh17b leather city could be a game-changer

The government plans to construct a Sh17 billion leather city on a 500-acre piece of land in Kinanie, Athi River in Machakos County. Fly540 loses bid to block Sh101m tax demand

The airline operator has lost bid to challenge a Sh101 million charge for air navigation services and regulatory fees for November 2011 to August 2012. Five Forty Aviation Limited, which operates Fly540 had moved to court after Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) slapped it with a Sh101, 455,818 Agency Notice in December 2012. The court rulings dismissed the claims raised by the airline operator that KRA and KCAA had, with the intention of recovering their taxes, overreached their mandates by issuing Agency Notice [...]
Conference tourism to earn Kenya Sh8b this year

Kenya is expected to earn about Sh8 billion from conference tourism this year according to the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism. In 2015, Kenya will host three global conferences that will attract more than 21,000 local and international delegates, namely, the Skal World Congress for the International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals, World Conference on Public Relations Forum, and the 10th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference. These conferences will be held in October, November and December this year respectively. In 2017, Kenya will host the World Youth Championship among other bids. Kenya is regaining its position as a business tourism destination in the world with plans to build Africa’s largest convention centre at Bomas of Kenya and having counties replicate construction of convention centers in conjunction with the private sector [...]
