Nairobi residents, and its environs, have up to 31st December 2012 to buy set top boxes or risk losing TV reception as the communications regulator (CCK) plans to switch off analogue TV signal in Nairobi.
Once the signal is switched off on December 31st 2012, television viewers in Nairobi will be required to buy an approved DVB-T2 set top box to receive digital TV signal.
According to CCK, Digital Kenya and the Ministry of Information and Communication, there are seven locally available type approved DVB-T2 set top boxes and one integrated Digital TV. They include:
Consumers should note that to receive free to air TV channels, for free, a free to air top set box is required. Pay TV set top boxes require payment of monthly subscription fees to continue viewing the pay TV channels. Free to air set boxes have higher purchase costs as compared to pay TV set top boxes.
