American Express And Equity Bank To Launch The First American Express Cards In Kenya Today

Today from 7.30 am Equity Bank Limited (EQTY) and American Express will launch the first American Express branded cards in Kenya. The venue of the launch will be at Equity centre, 9th floor, Upper Hill, Nairobi. The bank will be the sole issuer of American Express (AmEx) branded cards in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It will also handle customer relations for AmEx and manage card users billing and credit. []

KQ sees KES 4bn revenue loss after West Africa flights ban

National flag carrier Kenya Airways could lose up to KES 4.2 billion in revenues this fiscal year following its decision to suspend flights to Ebola-stricken West Africa, the management said. The airline estimates that it will lose at least 4% of its annual revenues if the deadly haemorrhagic fever continues its rampage in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea till end of the financial year in March 2015. []

Workers at Kenya in airways in Uganda on Monday staged a sit down strike over failure by management to honour negotiations in regard to revising their pay. This is not the first time the airline is facing industrial action. []

Airtel Kenya Follows Safaricom in Reducing Rwanda Roaming Rates

Airtel Kenya has joined Safaricom in reviewing its roaming tariffs in Rwanda by announcing a reduction of call rates by 60% and free incoming calls for its postpaid and prepaid customers roaming to Rwanda. Outgoing calls while roaming in Rwanda will now be charged at KES 10 per minute down from KES 25 per minute. []

CIC Insurance Rethinks Position On Risky PSVS

CIC Insurance has announced it will start covering public service vehicles, deemed highly risky due to fraud and accidents, which is a U-turn from its earlier position. Managing director Nelson Kuria said it will partner with an undisclosed PSV saccos to launch a subsidiary to handle the troublesome insurance class that has been blamed for the collapse of several insurers.[]

Relief for exporters as Kenya signs new trade deal with EU

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on Tuesday evening announced that the EAC states had finally signed an agreement with the European Union, two weeks after the initial deadline lapsed. “The three areas that remained outstanding namely: export taxes, export subsidies and relationship between Cotonou agreement and EPAs were all agreed upon in favour of Kenya,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added  that successful conclusion of the negotiations would enable Kenya to continue enjoying duty free and quota free access to the European markets. []
