Once the president assents to the Election Act (Amendment) Bill 2012, Kenyans with ID waiting cards will be able to register as voters. The waiting cards however will only be used in registration but not for voting, after MPs passed amendments to the law
2. African Treaty to Aid the Displaced Takes Effect
A treaty that African nations hope will lead to the fair and humane treatment of people displaced in their own countries went into force yesterday. The agreement comes more than 3 years after it was conceived by the African Union and has been praised by humanitarian groups as a ground-breaking legal mechanism. It binds governments to protect the rights of and to help internally displaced people.

According to a report by World Bank, there would be no joblessness in towns if money spent by the private sector was poughed back into the business. The money spent could create jobs sufficient to hire every unemployed urban Kenyan within the 15 yr and 34 yr bracket.

Kenya intends to spend KES 28 billion to double the port’s cargo handling capacity and enhance its operations. The port of Mombasa is set to one of East Africa’s largest container terminals and will deal with congestion at the regional gateway and lift a key trade barrier. This comes at a time when the country is trying to position itself as a regional maritime hub.
7. Shell Sees Opportunity in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
The multinational oil giant Royal Dutch plc., is currently expecting the demand for LNG to rise further in Asia including the Philippines, making it a viable alternative to coal. Coined as an attractive alternative to coal for power generation, it can also be used for other purposes such as road transport and shipping through LNG-fueled barges.
8. CMC Loses Land Rover Franchise to Rival Company
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has signed a franchise deal with RMA Group, a Thailand-based distributor, to have their units distributed by them. The move ends a nearly 50-year relationship that CMC Group had with Jaguar and is mostly influenced by the troubles the car dealer has faced in the past 2 years.
