5.  VAT Bill grants firms relief on bank guarantee

A key hurdle to large taxpayers filing complaints on tax assessments could be removed if the controversial Value Added Tax Bill becomes law. The Bill proposes that tax payers deposit less than a third of the money in contention before seeking redress through the Judiciary. Previously, aggrieved taxpayers were required to deposit the whole amount in dispute, tying up capital that could be used for operations. Businesses will now be required to deposit only 30 per cent of the amount in dispute. - Business Daily

6. Emirates to boost Kenya-Thai link

Emirates, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, has announced a plan to introduce new service to Phuket, the largest island in Thailand located in the Andaman Sea. Emirates will link Phuket, the airline’s second destination in Thailand after Bangkok, through its Dubai hub, beginning December 10. - Capital Business
