1. Nairobi City Council plan to sale city estates

The City Council of Nairobi plans to sell seven residential estates to offset Sh13 billion in debts, setting the stage for an increase in rents for tenants living in the quarters. The properties lined up for sale include Jivanjee/Bachelors Quarters, Old Ngara, New Ngara, Kariakor, Jamhuri and Buru Buru as well as Sunken along Taifa Road.- Business Daily

2. ERC halves gas cylinder deposit fees

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has halved the deposit fees for gas cylinders that oil marketers charge one another in a bid to increase accessibility to cooking gas.

In a statement, ERC said the cuts will affect the 13 kilogramme and the six kilogramme gas cylinders. - Daily Nation

3. New luxury vehicle sales defy inflation to accelerate 17pc

Sales of new luxury cars defied double-digit inflation to rise 17 per cent in the first half 2012, beating the downturn in that market segment, thanks to high demand from companies and wealthy individuals. Data from the Kenya Motor Industry Association shows that sales of car models like Mercedes and BMW stood at 124 units in the six months to June, rising 17 per cent from 106 units a year earlier.- Business Daily

5. Consolidated Bank lists Sh1.7b bond on NSE

Consolidated Bank has announced the listing and commencement of trading of a Sh1.7 billion bond on the Fixed Income Market segment of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

This was the first tranche of the bank’s Sh4 billion Corporate Bond which was launched in July that raised Sh1.7 billion out of an intended Sh2 billion. - Capital Business

6. Councils call for help to ease waste disposal burden

Local authorities are calling on the government to address garbage collection in rapidly developing urban and peri-urban centres before the situation gets out of hand. Civic authorities in major towns outside Nairobi state that increasing population in Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Meru have created a waste disposal burden that local authorities cannot keep up with. - Business Daily

7. KRA logbooks crisis slows down motor vehicle trade

A logbook crunch has persisted for weeks now, delaying new registration of motor vehicles and in turn afflicting business in sectors, including banking.  The shortage of logbooks at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) headquarters at Times Tower has bogged down the transfer of motor vehicles - both new and old - and motorcycles, straining the cashflows of dealers.- Business Daily
