Orange Introduces 3G WiFi Sharing Service

Mobile operator Orange Mobile Kenya has introduced the first 3G Wi-Fi broadband internet sharing service in the countryThis is the first Wi-Fi 3G enabled device with a billing interface to enable easy sharing of the wireless network with peers. 

The wireless router which will use an Orange SIM card will retail at KSh 36,950 and is available at all Orange Shops as well as partner outlets countrywide. Among other things, it will come with a 4 hour back up battery, a SIM Card and free 10GB worth of data upon purchasing.

The device launched on 19th of June is a simple plug and play device that allows up to 20 end users to access internet on the wireless fidelity platform(Wi-Fi). The device dubbed Orange Surf and Pay won Best New Service Category (2011) at AfricaCom Awards.

This will be an ideal internet solution for family and small offices that will not need installation of expensive hardware to share the internet. It can also be a good business opportunity for most people in the estates and villages to provide internet to friends.

The product, showcased during the SME expo in April at Nairobi’s KICC, will see users experience fast and reliable Internet coverage within a radius of 30 meters, Orange promised.
