As posted in Communications Commisssion of Kenya CCK 3rd Quarter Report, Esser Telecom Kenya Limited (Yu Mobile) posted the highest growth of 14.5 per cent, representing growth of 324,284 new subscriptions. A growth CCK attributes to increased promotional and special offers targeting the youth. As of 31st March 2012, Yu Mobile had 2,554,258 subscribers.
Telekom Kenya Limited ranked second in subscription growth, having gained 209,447 new subscription during the quarter under review as compared to the previous quarter. As of 31st March Telekom Kenya had 3,099,357 subscribers.
Airtel Kenya recorded a 4.9 per cent subscription growth which translated in 210,370 new subscribers in the quarter under review as compared to the previous quarter. As of 31st March Airtel had 4,483,334 subscribers.
Safaricom’s market share on the other hand continued decline from 66.6 per cent in the previous quarter to 65.3 per cent during the quarter under review. Safaricom though recoded a 2.1 per cent growth during the quarter under review as compared to the previous quarter.
Despite all the above, Safaricom still dominates the mobile network market having 19,074,700 subscribers as of 31st March.
