Orange Unveils Free Call,SMS Promotion

Telecommunications company Orange has today unveiled a promotional tariff dubbed Sare through which its pre-paid customers on Orange mobile network will enjoy free 24 hour on-net calls and SMS services as well as 10 free off-net SMSs.

According to the company’s CEO, Mickael Ghossein, the Sare promotional tariff targets new subscribers as well as existing customers. “Orange has invested in one of the fastest growing mobile networks in the country and we continue to keenly focus on offering quality and affordable services to our customers as our key differentiator.” Ghossein said.

The launch of the Sare tariff targeted at pre-paid users, comes days after the release of the Communications Commission of Kenya’s (CCK) Quarterly Sector Statistics report for January-March 2012, which indicates that during the period under review, pre-paid subscriptions grew by 4.0% to reach 28.9 million, way above post-paid subscribers which grew by 7.5%.

The CCK report further shows that Minutes of Use (MoU) per subscriber per month stood at 77.7, down from 79.9 in the previous quarter representing a 2.8% drop, thereby pushing operators to develop new tariffs that can encourage subscribers to talk more. Mobile operator Safaricom has introduced a promotion dubbed Wakenya Tuongee, which the company says is aimed at encouraging its subscribers to talk more on the network.

Orange pre-paid users can dial *5# to enjoy this round the clock promotion, where a daily KES 5 charge will apply. The promotional offer will run from 25th July, 2012 to 30th September, 2012.
