HIGHEST VOLUMES

Safaricom was the most traded share at the NSE for a fifth consecutive trading day, with 11.91 million shares traded down from 14.07 million shares on Friday while Kengen was second with 2.86 million shares traded. The third most active share was Mumias Sugar with 2.13 million shares moving across the counter from 1.44 million shares on Friday while the fourth most active share was Equity Bank with 1.52 million shares traded from 1.17 million shares on Friday. British-American Investments shares were the fifth most traded today, with 485,900 shares moving across the counter.

COUNTER WATCHLIST

  • CIC Insurance Group – Shares in Kenya’s leading co-operative insurer were top gainers today, climbing 5.56 percent to close at KES 4.75 per share from KES 4.50 on Friday last week. After tumbling since they were listed on the NSE one and a half weeks ago, the shares now appear to be on an upturn, gaining for a third consecutive day today and closing 75 cents lower than their highest price ever of KES 5.25.
  • AccessKenya Group – On the day it was reported that the company founders and directors Jonathan and David Somen have increased their combined stake in the company to 26.26 percent from 21.78 percent (Business Daily) within this year, shares in the technology company gained 0.99 percent to close at KES 5.10 per share from KES 5.05 on Friday. This is the highest share price for the company this month.
  • NIC Bank – For a seventh consecutive day, NIC shares gained further to close at KES 38.75 from KES 38.25 on Friday last week. The bank is currently in the early stages of carrying out Kenya’s second largest rights issue this year. Pesatalk will keep you up to date on the NIC rights issue as it unfolds.
