The World Bank  has approved the KES 25 billion needed to fund local road and railway transport upgrade. This means getting stuck in traffic on Mombasa Road may soon be a thing of the past.

As posted in the Standard, the National Urban Transport Improvement Project (NUTRIP) will see an elevated highway constructed above Mombasa Road – Uhuru High way from Likoni Road junction at Ole Sereni Hotel to James Gichuru junction off Waiyaki Way.

The road upgrade project is set to start in January next year and will be ready for use in 2015 as part of Kenya National Highway Authority’s (KeNHA) larger plan to improve the thoroughfare from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Rironi location in Limuru constituency in Central Province, as reported in the Standard.

The design of the road will be such that the Nyayo stadium roundabout, considered a major cause of traffic jam, will be replaced with a single point diamond interchange while an elevated road way-viaduct would be built towards Haile Selassie roundabout and end past the University Way roundabout.

An elevated roadway viaduct will run above Haile Selassie road, Kenyatta Avenue and University way.

Finally, constant traffic on Mombasa Road will be a thing of the past soon, saving you travel costs.
