Closing Bell – 24 August 2012

INDICES

The NSE 20 Share Index today gained 0.24 percent to 3,826.89 points from 3,817.70 points yesterday while the All Share Index fell 0.2 percent to 83.84 points from 84.01 points yesterday.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

KCB shares were today the most traded with 1.74 million shares while second were Kenya Power with 1.21 million shares down from 1.6 million shares yesterday. CIC Insurance were the third most traded with 935,700 shares across the counter while Cooperative Bank was fourth with  586,600 shares down from 2.66 million shares yesterday. KenolKobil shares were the fifth most traded with 460,600 shares across the counter.

COUNTER WATCH

  • EABL – The shares lost five shillings today to close at KES 224 on the day that saw the beer maker announce a 24 percent rise in pre-tax profit to 15.2 billion shillings and revenues surpass 50 billion shillings.
  • NIC Bank – The share gained 25 cents to KES 32 today. The bank has posted a 43 percent growth in half-year earnings to 2.3 billion shillings. NIC will begin a rights issue on Monday. Read more here.
  • Jubilee Holdings – One day after the financial group posted a 19 percent growth in pre-tax profit to 927.9 million shillings, the share was the highest gaining share rising 8.28 percent to KES 170 from KES 157 yesterday.
