UK Sports had expected possible medal results of between 40 to 70 medals. On average they expected to win at least 48 medals and rank among the top four on the medal table. Based on their preparations they went as far as to project how many medals they expected to deliver in each category. In Athletics, for instance, they expected to win 5 to 8 medals, cycling 6 to 10 medals and in sports like basketball, handball and synchronized swimming, just to mention a few, they had no expectations of winning any medals.
As they had predicted, at the close of the games, team Great Britain finished third on the medal table ranking with 65 medals, 29 being gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze. 17 medals more than they had least expected to win.
It’s a common belief that Kenyans don’t keep time. You arrange to meet up with someone at 6pm but they end up arriving at 7pm. Wedding delays are a common thing, worst still, most people fail to keep their commitments, the main reason being due to lack of making realists goals.
One of the most stressful experiences to endure is being harassed by your creditors, but then again, creditors have the absolute right to harass you. If you made a commitment of repay your debt in say a month, without having clearly thought through you capacity to repay the debt within a month, don’t you think creditors are justified to harass you? It’s you who tied yourself to a commitment of settling the debt within a month.
The trick is to set realistic goals. If it’s a debt situation begin by assessing the duration of repayment your creditors are giving you. Don’t jump on to saying yes before sitting down and doing your calculations to see if you can meet the set deadlines. If there are no interest rates tied to the duration of payment, choose the maximum duration of payment, this will give you adequate time to repay and if you find yourself able to settle the debt before the dead, do so, in order to maintain to friendly relationship with your creditors plus maintain your credit worth with them.
Consider interest rates tied to the loan. This can have an impact on your capacity to pay. Assess your financial position, calculate the amount you’ll be required to pay each month and how much you’ll pay in total at the end of the duration. If it’s an amount you can’t handle, its best to get a different creditor.
At the end of the day the trick is to assess the situation before committing yourself to something. Just as it was the case with Great Britain’s London Olympics team, the projected wins wasn’t based on mere guess work but on the extent of their preparations and previous performance in the Olympic Games. Apply the same before committing yourself to something.
