StarTimes Media, a digital Pay Television company has today announced a 33 per cent drop in the price of its DVB T2 approved digital decoders. StarTimes decoders will as of 1st November to 31st December retail at KES 1,999 from KES 2,999.
Once subscribers purchase the decoders they will enjoy the convenience of choosing a channel bouquet of their choice. The company recently added two more channels in its list of channels, bringing the total number of its channels to over 70 local and international premium television channels. Monthly subscription rates range from KES 499 for the basic package to KES 2,499 for the classic channels, plus more packages to choose from.
StarTimes Media CEO Mr. Leo Lee observed that time is ripe for Kenyans to embrace digital television technology noting that StarTimes is keen on facilitating the same through making the company’s products affordable even to the low income bracket of the society.
“It is our goal to ensure as many families as possible enjoy the benefits of digital television, it is no longer a luxury to have digital television and we have made sure of this by competitively pricing our products in such a way that it is not only very affordable but also provide access to premium television content” said Mr. Lee.
StarTimes Media has, in the recent past, extended its digital television service to five more towns across Kenya in addition to Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa as it penetrates further into rural Kenya.
Existing subscribers will also enjoy three months free subscription for any mobile television device they purchased with the subsequent payment of a three month television subscription of a bouquet of their choice.
Kenya’s deadline to switch over to digital broadcasting was recently moved to after the elections next year due to high costs of acquiring set top boxes.
