TOP TRADED COUNTERS
Safaricom took the top spot in what seems to be a permanent trend. The counter saw 18.37 million shares changing ownership at KES 5. Market capitalization maintained at KES 200 billion and stands to gain if the stock price shoots past this price. In second place was KCB Bank Group which traded 1.55 million stocks. The company has announced a base interest rate cut to 17%, effective on 1 January 2013. Not far behind them was CIC insurance group whose counter saw 1.3 million shares switch hands. Co-operative Bank barely made it into the top traded counters with 1.24 million shares at 12.10.
Total transactions for the Co-operative bank shareholders amounted to KES 15 million, earning the stockbrokers KES 300,000 on commission. Naturally, trading Safaricom shares saw a total of KES 92.85 and commissions totaling KES 1.86 million.
