MultiChoice Wont Resell Exclusive EPL Rights

You will watch the English Premier League (EPL) only on DSTv. Pay-TV firm MultiChoice has turned down calls by the industry regulator to re-sell some of its exclusive content like the English Premier League rights to rival operators in Kenya. The South Africa-based firm operates the DStv satellite television service across Sub-Saharan Africa and has maintained that forced sharing of content like SuperSport would harm its revenues and their appeal to advertisers.

The Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) reports that Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) said the content sharing model is aimed at reducing the dominance of DStv. this domination has the subject of an investigation by the Competition Authority that sought to establish whether or not it had unwarranted concentration of economic power.

However, the MultiChoice  guys have suggested that they may be willing to re-sell certain content on the condition that buyers air the content with a delay in order to enable them to retain priority. You know what that means? An EPL showdown, say between Swansea City and Arsenal Kicks off at 2100 hrs and is aired live and in real-time on Supersport, while on a channel in Zuku TV, it will kick off at 2130 hrs. Walcott will celebrate his brace at stoppage time when on your Zuku screen the match is still at 60 minutes of play and reads nil-nil.

Then again, knowing Walcott, he probably won't score a brace; so you're okay.
