4th Pay TV Option to Join the Market

Samsung Electronics will soon join the Pay TV market in August this year when it unveils new LED TV sets that have built-in satellite decoders allowing viewers access to 60 channels for free (30 English and 30 French).

This comes after Samsung signed a deal with satellite operator SES which currently covers 40 African countries.

This service will only be available on the high-end Samsung LED TV’s that currently retail for between KES 58,000 to KES 145,000.

This can be seen as a value added service that aims to attract sales for Samsungs high-end-sets. No decoder or monthly subscription will be necessary, although users will still need a satellite dish. The service is the fourth premium TV service after DSTV, Zuku, and Go Tv.

This announcement came during Samsung’s annual Africa Forum in Cape Town, South Africa on Thursday last week.
