M-Pesa Prepay Safari Card V/S Orange Money Visa Debit Card

M-Pesa and Orange Money have both expanded their money transfer services to include a visa debit card.

M-Pesa has partnered with I&M Bank to expand the M-Pesa usage through offering the M-Pesa Prepay Safari Card, an internationally recognized Prepay Visa card. While Orange Money on the other hand has entered into a partnership with Equity Bank to bring you the Orange Money Visa Dedit card, a full debit card allowing direct access to your Orange Money account.

M-Pesa Prepay Safari Card Features

  • Available to anyone who has a Safaricom line with M-Pesa facility and is 18 years
  • Easy to load and reload, you can reload from your M-Pesa menu for as between KES 100 to KES 35,000 and you can also claim a refund for any outstanding balance in your card (Which should be no less than KES 250) by visiting any I&M Bank branch and filling a refund form with the required identification documents.
  • You get to enjoy international ATM usage
  • This card can also be used to conduct online internet transactions such as purchases and payments
  • You can easily monitor the card expenses through checking the balance over the internet by visiting www.imbank.com and go to the online services
  • The minimum balance to be maintained in the card account at all times is KES 250, though the minimum load amount is KES 500 per load and the maximum card holding amount is KES 500,000
  • You will receive SMS alerts anytime you use the card
  • There are no late payment fees, ledger fees or over the limit fees

Orange Money Visa Debit card features

  • Open to anyone who has an Orange Money account or has an existing Equity Bank account and has linked the account to Orange Money.
  • Internationally recognized, you can withdraw cash from over 1.8 million ATMs in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, plus you pay for both your local and international purchases.
  • You can deposit and withdraw cash at any Equity ATM country wide. The minimum amount you can deposit is KES 100 and the maximum amount is KES 100,000.
  • You can transfer funds through the Equity Bank channels
  • You can also bay utility bills at any Equity ATM countrywide and get a receipt
  • Allows you to buy Orange airtime for your line or for another line
  • No monthly charges to maintain your card
  • No monthly charges to maintain the car
