Closing Bell: Liberty Kenya Holdings Top Gainer as Transcentury Declines

Liberty Kenya Holdings Limited continued to perform well and closed the day as the top gainer in the market. It ended the day at KES 23.00 having gained 9.52% (KES2.00) in its share price.

Transcentury Limited took the lead as being the worst performer in the exchange. The counter registered a drop of 9.09% to end the day at KES 14.00. This is a KES 1.40 loss per share.

Transcentury’s poor performance comes a few days after it announced a net loss of Sh2.28 billion last year from a profit of Sh626.43 million in 2013. They mainly attributed this to its exit from Kenya-Uganda railway and reduced income from non-core business activities.

Shareholders, who last year earned a Sh0.40 dividend per share, will go empty-handed this year.

Another significant happening at Transcentury is that businessman Jimnah Mbaru has exited the list of TransCentury’s top owners, marking the second time a significant founder shareholder of the investment firm has dropped from its list of major investors. Mr Mbaru had traded 9.4 million shares equivalent to a 3.3 per cent stake he previously held in the company.
