The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has been directed to hold for sometime its plans to start deducting from workers contributions based on the new tariffs. (Read: New NHIF Tariff Takes Effect in June)
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka directed Labour minister John Munyes to delay the roll-out of the enhanced NHIF contributions to allow consultations and resolution of the dispute with Cotu over the new fees.
COTU secretary-general Francis Atwoli had issued a public strike notice effective 14th of May if NHIF went ahead with its plans to implement the new payment scheme. Atwoli accused NHIF chief executive Richard Kerich and three other unnamed politicians of being behind the increment to raise funds for campaigns.
NHIF had plans to start deducting the new amounts starting this month.
