A young Briton splashed out over £200,000 (Kshs. 26,439,380) on drinks at a Liverpool nightclub, breaking the world record for the highest bill ever paid in a club.
23-year-old Alex Hope spent £125,000 on a 30-litre Midas bottle of Armand de Brignac, known as Ace of Spades – the world’s most expensive bottle of Champagne. The 45kg bottle had to be carried to his table by two waiters. The young spender splashed a further £80,000 on other champagnes, vodka, beer and mixers for his guests including footballers Joe Hart and Adam Johnson at the PlayGround nightclub at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel. Hope also ordered a further forty 75cl bottles of Armand de Brignac (the Champagne endorsed by rapper Jay-Z) and handed them out to some very lucky single ladies.
The £204,000 bill, including an £18,500 (Kshs. 2,445,642) tip, is thought to be the highest ever paid in a club. The £204,000 bar bill is enough to buy over a million NIC Bank shares as of today’s Kshs. 25.25 price on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. The tip itself, all Kshs. 2,445,642 of it, is more than three times the profit that listed company Kenya Orchards reported for its 2011 year.
The bar bill amount is enough to buy 4 deluxe houses in the upcoming Kisaju View Park Estate, free of any financing. That is, homes for 4 Kenyan families. The young spendthrift could easily have spent the Kshs. 26 million on 134,840 Tusker beers each costing Kshs. 200 bob and made very many Kenyans happy in the process.
The man could have just opened a bar!
