According to Yahoo! the CEO of Goldman Sachs Mr. Lloyd Blankfein received a pay package of $16.2 million in 2011 despite a sharp decline in profits and share price during the year. Blankfein’s pay boost includes stock awards from previous years that vested in 2011, and therefore does not reflect the amount that Goldman’s board awarded him strictly for the company’s performance last year. Goldman offered another figure, $12 million, as the amount Blankfein received for his performance last year.
Whatever the figure, $12 million (about Kshs. 1 billion) or $16.2 million (Kshs. 1.35 billion), it is still a hell of a lot of money. The “lower” figure of $12 million can buy 118 brand new, top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz E-300s each going for 77,000 Euros at DT Dobie with duty paid or 13 high-end Luluhouses in the very classy Kihingo Village with each 5175 square feet house costing a little over Kshs. 75 million. The amount is enough to buy 14,475 wifi & 4G new iPads straight from Apple with 64GB top-spec device costing $829. Heck you can buy 166 quarter-acre plots in Migaa with each going at Kshs. 6.5 million (if they are even available) or if you’re feeling sufficiently philanthropic, 8,333 packets of unga at Kshs. 120 each for Kenyans in need.
