Figures from the Communications Commission of Kenya, 2nd Quarter October – December Report 2011, indicate that Airtel’s overall off-net voice traffic, over the period of October to December 2011, surpassed those of its on-net voice traffic. The off-net call minutes stood at 429,766,670 while those of the on-net minutes were 427,361,165.
Safaricom’s high off-net calling rates discouraged its subscribers from making cross network calls. Safaricom’s off-net voice traffic stood at 227,004,015, nearly half that of Airtel’s off-net voice traffic (427,361,165).
