Trading User Guide: How to Buy and Sell Shares

  • To place an order, click on Buy/sell shares.
  • Choose option Buy or Sell
a) For the Buy option:
Step 1: Enter the security code, price and quantity shares to be bought. On the right side of the page, you will see a table that shows your available trading funds, total charges and the remaining funds after charges have been deducted. 
Valid Upto - this is the expiry date of  the order i.e. this is the date if the order does not match any asks in the market, it will expire and be cancelled. You can set your own order expiry date.
Step 2: Click Place Order, then you can choose Modify Order to make changes or Submit Order.
Step 3: After placing your order, you will be able to view on the Orders table that your order is pending and when it's completed, the order table will be updated and it will show filled. The settlement period is normally 3 days - this is from when the order is filled to when the shares appear in your portfolio.
b) For the Sell option:
Step 1:  Enter the security code, price and quantity shares to be sold. On the right side of the page, you will see the number of available shares in your portfolio. 
Valid Upto - this is the expiry date of  the sell order i.e. this is the date if the order does not match any bids in the market, it will expire and be cancelled. You can set you own order expiry date.
Step 2: Click Place Order, then you can choose Modify Order to make changes or Submit Order.
Step 3: After placing your order, you will be able to view on the Orders table that your order is pending and when it's completed, the order table will be updated and it will show filled. The settlement period is normally 3 days - this is from when the order is filled to when the changes appear in your portfolio.
  • Reasons for Order Cancellation
  1. If the order expires -  this occurs when an order does not have a matching ask or bid in the market by the specified valid up to date.
  1. If the shares ordered no longer trade in the NSE.
  1. If the price quoted is way off the market - this means that the share price of order is quoted either too high or too low.
  1. If the order is canceled by the user.
