Boda Boda to Pay Taxes

Cooperative Development and Marketing minister Joseph Nyagah, says his ministry is developing a law that would see motorcycle taxis, commonly known as boda boda pay taxes. (Daily Nation)

In a bid to control the fast growing division of public transport, the minister says they are proposing to have the taxi riders operate in a regulated environment. Public transport vehicles were subjected to associations and SACCOs that have seen operations in the sector adopt some order that passengers have appreciated.

The organization of the operators into controlled groups would make their operations smoother, more controlled and will make it easier for the taxman to collect revenue from the operators.

Motorcycle transport has become the preferred means of transport in the rural areas becomes of timeliness and convenience, as motorcycles do not have to use the main roads only. City metropolis residents have also taken up the mode of transport to avoid and maneuver through traffic jams, hence creating many job opportunities for the youthful riders and saving millions in man hours.
