The Communications Commission of Kenya board has been handed a short list of candidates who will be interviewed to fill the post of the Commissions director-general. The post fell vacant following an order issued by the High Court in August 2011 instructing Mr. Charles J.K. Njoroge to cease acting as the Director General until the case challenging his re-appointment was heard and determined.
Information Minister Samwel Poghisio had given Mr. Njoroge another term in breach of the boards recommendations, which had stated that he was not not suitable to serve another term as he had scored less than the qualifying 70% on his appraisal. Mr. Njoroge had scored 60% prompmting the board to challenge his appointment in court.
The court order also indicated that if the CCK Board chose to replace Mr. Njoroge, then, the said replacement would be in an acting capacity until the matter was concluded. Mr. Francis Wangusi who was the Director in charge of Special Projects and Broadcasting at the Commission was later appointed by the board as the acting director-general after the court ruled that Njoroge's re-appointment was irregular.
The candidates whose names have been presented to the board by consultancy firm Manpower Services include acting director-general Francis Wangusi, Juma Kandie who is the current human resource director at CCK and John Omo who is the CCK secretary and legal head. The other three candidates have not been revealed to the public due to their current job statuses.
