CCK Delay Eats Into Dealers' Profit

Dealers in television sets are wary over delayed proceeds. This is being attributed to Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) delayed issuance of licenses to television manufacturers who cannot start shipping the sets before the licensing from the regulator. LG Electronics Kenya Corporate Marketing Assistant Manager Daisy Mugo says  they will ship digital compliant sets once CCK's licenses are out. The licensing delays could as well delay digital migration.

The analogue to digital broadcasting transition was expected to spark a boom in the digital television market and manufacturing, something that has not yet been realized.

Farhan Abbas owns an electronics store along Nairobi's Luthuli Avenue and he says that he has so far not gotten even half of what he was anticipating since CCK announced the requirements of digital migration. "I get supplies of TV sets from Samsung and LG, but our suppliers haven't been supplying sufficient consignments". Mr. Abbas was prospecting to sell at least 7 digital sets, either Samsung of LG in a day, prices ranging between KES 17, 000 and KES 59,000.

LG Electronics will be launching the LG Cinema 3D television on Friday August 24th 2012, an LED plus which will enable users to save cents worth of electricity.
