In today’s trading commercial banks dominated the movers category of trading at the NSE. KCB was the biggest mover with 1.98 million shares traded. Next was Co-operative Bank of Kenya with 1.90 million shares exchanging hands. Equity Bank came in third with 1.27 million shares being exchanged. The high trading volumes observed may be due to the positive first quarter results the banks have reported over the last two weeks.

In fourth was Safaricom with 1.24 million shares traded. This is one of the lowest trading figures we have observed at this counter. Finally we had Mumias Sugar Company with 1.10 million shares traded.

It is worth noting that Athi River Mining announced an increase in its first quarter profits to KES 369 million.

Today the Kenya Shilling weakened for the fifth day in a row to stand at KES 83.83 per dollar. This is the lowest the Kenya Shilling has reached since February 2nd 2012.
