INDICES

At today’s trading, the NSE 20-Share Index gained for a seventh consecutive day to reach a new one-year high, adding 0.03 points to close at 3,878.52 points from 3,878.49 points yesterday. The All Share Index meanwhile  dropped 0.31 points closing at 84.35 points from 84.66 points yesterday.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

For a second day today, Safaricom was the most actively traded share with 21.48 million shares traded down from 27.71 million shares yesterday while second was CIC Insurance Group with 3.33 million shares traded from 3.66 million shares yesterday. Third was Kengen with 1.08 million shares moving across the counter while the fourth most active share was Kenya Commercial Bank with 884,300 shares traded down from 2.58 million shares yesterday. The fifth most traded share was Kenya Power with 825,400 shares moving across the counter.

COUNTER WATCHLIST

• NIC Bank – For a fourth day today, the bank’s shares gained to close at their second highest price of this year rising 1.34 percent higher to close at KES 37.75 from KES 37.25 yesterday. NIC is scheduled to carry out Kenya’s second largest rights issue of this year set to raise 2.07 billion shillings to pursue the bank’s local and regional expansion. Read more on this here
• Marshalls East Africa – On the day it was reported that Mr. Kamlesh Pattni has sold off 50.7 percent of his stake in the car dealer (Business Daily), the share closed with no price change at KES 12.30 similar to yesterday.
• Bamburi Cement – After rallying to their highest price in almost two years yesterday, shares in Kenya’s biggest cement maker dropped 2.78 percent today, closing at KES 180 from KES 185 yesterday.
