INDICES

The NSE 20 Share Index today gained 0.31 percent to 3,839.1 points from 3,826.89 points at the close of last week.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

CIC Insurance shares were today the most traded with 1.04 million shares down 935,700 shares on Friday last week while second were Safaricom with 1.00 million shares. Kenya Power were the third most traded with 9766,100 shares down from 1.21 million on Friday while Kenya Re were the fourth most traded with 863,000 shares across the counter. Cooperative Bank was fifth with 812,700 shares up from 586,600 shares on Friday last week.

COUNTER WATCH

  • EABL – The shares closed at KES 223 similar to Friday. They do not appear to be recovering from Friday’s 6 shilling drop which was one of their biggest of this year.  Interestingly, the drop happened on the day that EABL released 2011 full year results where profit rose 24 percent to 15 billion and revenues topped 50 billion.
  • NIC Bank SharesThe shares closed at Friday’s price of KES 32. With 98,724,391 additional NIC shares to be added in the ongoing Rights Issue, the share price could face dilution once the issue ends in October.
  • Nation Media – The shares topped Friday’s price to a new 3 year high of KES 205 after gaining 1 shilling in the day.
