Closing Bell – 3 August 2012

For a fifth day today  the NSE 20 Share Index declined to lose 3.6 percent and close at 3,687.72 points from 3,825.08 points yesterday while the All Share Index gained 3 percent to close at 85.40 points from 82.98 points yesterday.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Safaricom was today the most traded share for a second day with 19.48 million shares traded up from 5.91 million shares yesterday while Equity Bank was the second most traded share with 1.40 million shares moving across the counter from 2.86 million shares yesterday. Third was Mumias Sugar Company with 1.10 million shares traded while the fourth most active share was CIC Insurance Group with 671,200 shares moving across the counter. The fifth most traded share was East African Breweries Limited with 645,400 shares traded.

COUNTER WATCHLIST

  • Eaagads – Shares in the coffee grower were a top gainer at the NSE for a fourth consecutive day, rising 10 percent to close at KES 49.50 which is their highest price since mid last year.
  • Total Kenya – After becoming one of the biggest gainers at the NSE for the past two days, the petroleum marketer’s shares lost 2.87 percent today to close at KES 16.90 down from KES 17.40 yesterday.
