The NSE All-Share Index today dropped 1.1 percent to close at 82.47 points from 83.39 points yesterday while the NSE 20-Share Index gained 4.5 percent to close at 3,795.3 points from 3,631.2 points yesterday.
HIGHEST VOLUMES
Like yesterday, Equity Bank today had the highest number of shares and traded with 1.5 million shares down from 5.2 million shares traded yesterday. Safaricom was the second most traded share of the day, trading 555,000 more shares than yesterday’s 1.5 million shares. Co-operative Bank was third most traded with 746,500 shares moving across the counter. British American Investments was fourth most traded with 657,500 shares, while East African Breweries was the fifth most traded with 572,000 shares.
COUNTER WATCHLIST
- CFC Stanbic Holdings – The share gained 0.6 percent to close at KES 44.00 from KES 43.75 yesterday. Today’s Business Daily reported that an investor is seeking Ksh 465 million from CFC Stanbic Bank, a subsidiary of CFC Stanbic Holdings and Dyer & Blair Investment Bank for a loss on returns invested in the two institutions.
- Uchumi Supermarkets – After gaining for four consecutive days, the share lost 0.6 percent to close at KES 15.95 from KES 16.05 yesterday. It was revealed today that the Government will not sell its 14 percent stake in the supermarket, opting to recover its investments through dividends, according to the Business Daily.
- Kakuzi – After having its biggest one-day climb yesterday, the agricultural company closed unmoved today at KES 80. Agricultural exports such as tea have this week lead to the strengthening of the Kenya Shilling against the US dollar from KES 84.13 on Monday to KES 84.02 yesterday according to Reuters.
- British American Tobacco – The share climbed to its highest price in more than five years gaining 2 Shillings today to close at KES 382 up from KES 380 yesterday.
- Kapchorua Tea Company – Today the share gained for the first time since Wednesday last week when it had its biggest one-day drop of the year. It closed up 4 percent at KES 130 from KES 125 yesterday. The tea company on Monday reported a fall in full-year profits as reported in the Business Daily.
