Closing Bell – 5th September

INDICES

The NSE 20 Share Index today edged up 1.6 points to 3,897.45 points from 3,895.86 points yesterday while the All Share Index was also up 0.2 points to 85.82 points from 85.62 points.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Safaricom shares were for a second day the most traded with 3.40 million shares from 12.05 million shares traded yesterday while CIC Insurance were second with 1.35 million shares up from 1.13 million yesterday.  Mumias Sugar were third with 1.29 million shares down from 2.42 million shares yesterday while Barclays Bank were fourth most traded with 1.27 million shares. Equity Bank shares were fifth with 1.22 million shares up from 391,400 shares traded yesterday.

COUNTER WATCH

  • Safaricom – The shares today remained at yesterday’s closing price of KES 3.95 which is the year’s highest closing price. Since July the share has rallied to trade above the 3.5 shillings from just below this for the better part of the year.
  • Equity Bank – The share closed at yesterday’s closing price of KES 23.50 which is a 13-month high for the share driven by high foreign investor demand.
  • KCB – The share closed at yesterday’s high of KES 26 today despite climbing as high as KES 26.50 early in the day.
