Closing Bell – 7th September

INDICES

The NSE 20 Share Index today gained 0.3 percent to the year’s highest of 3,899.62 points while   the All Share Index also declined by 0.64 percent to 85.90 points from 85.35 points yesterday.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Mumias Sugar shares were the most traded with 7.14 million shares from 1.7 million yesterday while CIC Insurance were second with 6.56 million shares up from 931,700 shares. NIC Bank Rights were third with 1.29 million shares while fourth were KCB with 1.12 million shares across the counter. Safaricom shares were fifth most traded with 1.11 million shares down from 1.65 million shares yesterday.

COUNTER WATCH

  • NIC Bank Rights – On their last day of trading, the rights dropped 1.53 percent to KES 12.85 from KES 13.05 yesterday. From late last week into early this week, the rights were the top performers at the stock market, gaining more than 4 shillings in the period.
  • Pan Africa Insurance Holdings – The shares closed the day at yesterday’s price of KES 41.75.. The share’s price has doubled since April in what news reports have attributed to the announcement by Sanlam to increase their stake in Pan Africa from 50 to 60 percent.
  • British American Tobacco – The shares were among the top gainers at the stock market after climbing 11 shillings to close at KES 412. This price is 3 shillings lower than the share’s record high of KES 415 reached this and last week.
