East African Portland Cement Company was the top gainer at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The counter registered a gain of 9.26% to end the day at KES 59.00. This was a KES 5.00 gain in share price.
East African Portland Cement’s gain comes a few days after it swung to a first-half loss due to a maintenance shutdown of its packaging and clinker units. The Kenyan firm had hoped that it would recover its market share after repairs and by its performance today it is well on its way to doing that.
Pan African Insurance Company Limited closed the day as the worst performing share registering a staggering drop of 29.60%. The counter closed with a share price of KES 88.00 which was a KES 37.00 drop in share price.
The Cooperative Bank of Kenya Limited was the most traded share in the exchange today after its recent 2014 Q1 Results. It traded 14,540,600 shares which was 40.8% of all trades in the market.

The other top gainers were: Uchumi Supermarkets Limited (UCHM), Sameer Africa Limited (FIRE), Eveready East Africa Limited (EVRD) and Crown Paints Kenya Limited (BERG). Each closed at KES 11.50, 5.60, 4.10 and 170.00 respectively.
