Kenyan commuters will benefit from a KES 605 billion government investment that will be used to improve traffic within the country. The Ministry of Roads said that the investment is part of a 15 year plan that will be used to develop the country’s infrastructure.
According to the Ministry, the venture will improve roads within the Eastlands area and around the Adams Arcade- Ngong Road intersection. The Ministry believes the project will reduce road congestion by increasing the country’s traffic capacity. The plan will also enable domestic as well as foreign investors to transport their goods and services with ease.
The upgrade will be part of a 3 stage project that will rack up a total cost of KES 2 trillion. Each stage will run for a period of about five years and the first phase should be complete by 2015.
The Ministry has already set plans in motion for the construction of several other highways and bypasses. These include the on going construction of dual carriageways in Juja, Muthaiga, Kasarani and Pangani. The new task, however, is set to kick off as early as January next year.
