We don’t always have time to go shopping at thrift markets, or money to buy items from pricey clothes shops in town. PesaTalk being all about helping you save a shilling found you a place that will dress and de-stress you! Kenya’s most respected fashion blogger, Nancie Mwai, has such a deal. Every Friday, Nancie pitches tent and turns her blog into a market. She calls it the Market Friday. Here, she sells items that she has worn before, others that she gets for you at Gikomba Market or from her Market Friday partner Anita Maina.
Market Friday’s items are not pricey. Most of the dresses for example range from 500/- to 900/-. Nancie’s market has grown since she started the Market Friday, and sometimes even manages to sell everything put up on offer.
So what is the process?
See something you love that is your size and you can afford? Text or call the number provided and confirm that the item is still available for sell. Once that is confirmed, you M-PESA the payments to the number provided. Customers are not allowed to book items. Whoever comes first gets the deal. Nancie delivers the items on Saturday noon at Nakumatt Lifestyle. She recently started shipping items for her Mombasa customers.
And what does she have for our beloved men? Nancie says that it is tricky to get on trend items for men and manage to sell them under 1000/-, given how pricey they are.
It is not every day a fashionista will go shopping for you in Gikomba, then let you have the dress for less than 1000 shillings.
We couldn’t let Nancie go without some shopping tips:
-Just because items are affordable do not impulse buy then end up not wearing.
-Always check the quality of an item before purchasing.
– If you’re not sure about your size, try the garment on before you purchase.
-Experiment with different trends and pieces, not everyone can pull of certain trends but how will you know if you don’t experiment?
