Fifth Mobile Operator to Join the Market Soon

As posted in the Daily Nation this morning, a Vietnamese mobile operator, Viettel Group, has announced plans to start operations in Kenya.

Viettel Group is a state owned mobile network operator with its headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam. It started operations in Mozambique under Movitel on May 15, 2012.

Entry of Viettel Group in Kenya’s mobile market will upset the plans of other four mobile operators: Safaricom, Airtel, Orange and Yu Mobile, reports Daily Nation.

In an email interview with Daily Nation, Mr Nguyen Duy Tho, Viettel Global’s General Director said, “We are the only company which has grown from challenges and difficulties, from the lowest level, and we have reached the top level in fierce competitive markets in a short time (two years). Those are our advantages in the developing markets. We understand and we know how to perform and what we have to do to survive.

Viettel has invested in six nations, including: Cambodia and Laos in Asia, Haiti and Peru and Mozambique.
