Fixed Line Service from Safaricom

Safaricom is coming up with a strategy to venture into the fixed line business, which has previously been dominated by Telkom Kenya. This new service named Safaricom One Net seeks to target companies and big organisations.

Companies prospecting to acquire this service will need to get Cisco phones that will enable them make free calls within the company. Charges will only be made for calls to mobile phones or outside the company

All 47 counties in the country will access this service which will make use of the fibre optic cables and Wi-Fi. This will make it easier and cheaper to get connected. The new service will entail the use of similar numbers to those used by Telkom Kenya though it will not have the 020 prefix.

Safaricom have however declined to offer more information about the service but have made it clear that the service will not be a landline service. Safaricom’s head of corporate affairs and regulatory director Nzioka Waita told The Star that the product is going to be completely different and will rely on broadband, though the mobile operator is not yet ready to launch it.
