The twenties is the age of fun. It is when most of us get our first job and want to over-indulge in life’s endless niceties. We want to buy stuff that we do not need, go out as much as we can, travel the world. There is no feeling as good as spending money that you have earned for the first time! There is no other age we get to have fun. 30s come with marriage, babies and bigger responsibilities. 20s are the age to be careless, make mistakes and learn from them. But as much as we are focused on having fun and making these mistakes, to a certain degree, we might not really afford this carelessness. A part of us needs to be sane enough. We need to have fun without being entirely careless. This is why:
1. One day you will wake up in your late 30s with no savings in your name, and then you will start scampering, struggling to save a shilling as you drown in responsibilities. Take advantage of the opportunity and save before you start drowning.
2. Debts- We all have a friend who decided to take a car loan before he was ‘ripe’ for it. We also have that one friend whose favorite plastic is the credit card. There is too much trickle-down spending and ‘fronting’ in the 20s. You do not want to live a life where tomorrow’s earnings got to today’s debts.
3. At some point, your body will give up on employment, and you will want to retire. You waste your time in the 20s, and then? Do that which you plan to do right now in your 20s. The 60s are for resting and spending the money you have earned. The 50s are for running your company. Do it now! But still, enjoy your 20s. You live only but once.
