The Ministry of Immigration has increased the cost of acquiring a Kenyan passport. A new ordinary 32 page passport will now cost Kenyans Ksh 4,500 up from Ksh 3,040.
In a notice issued by the immigration department the diplomatic 48 page passport, which cost Ksh6,000, will now cost Ksh7,500. The changes will also affect ordinary 48 page passport which will now cost Ksh6,000, with the 64 page costing Ksh7,500. The East African passport will now cost Sh940.
For one to get a 32 page service passport they will have to part with Ksh 6,000. A temporary permit now costs Sh300, a certificate of identity Ksh3,000. Replacing a lost passport, which used to cost Ksh. 8,000, has been set at Ksh 12,000. To replace a valid but mutilated passport one will need to pay Sh10,000. A temporary Kenyan passport will now cost Ksh3,000 while Emergency Travel Document will cost about Ksh. 1700.
Registration for citizenship by marriage to spouses from an East African Community Partner State as well as Registration for citizenship for widows and widowers from an East African Community Partner state will cost Ksh. 5,000.
Transit Visa will be US $ 50 (Ksh. 4,200) fee while Referral Visa fee is US $ 10 (Ksh.840) non-refundable. Ordinary/Single Journey Visa fee is now US $ 50 (Ksh.4,200) while Multiple Journey Visa fee will now be US $ 100 (Ksh. 8, 400).
This comes barely a week after the immigration department announced that it has dropped the Ksh. 300 fee on replacement of Kenyan national identity cards.
