Inflation Drops, CPI Rises

Latest reports from Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) show that the Consumer Price Indices (CPI) for October 2012 increased by 0.43 per cent to stand at 132.46 from 131.89 in September 2012.

A CPI measures changes in the price level of consumer goods and services purchased by households.

Despite rise in CPI, the overall inflation rate dropped to 4.14 per cent in October 2012 from 5.32 per cent September 2012.

Kenya’s CPI has been on a steady rise over the last one month with the latest rise being attributed to 0.23 per cent increase in the Food and Non Alcoholic drinks’ index, 0.55 per cent rise in the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other fuel’s index, and 1.37 per cent rise in the Transport index.

More on this will be posted on our financial review of October 2012.
