Today marks the listing and commencement in trading of the new 1.03 billion Kenya Airways (rights) shares.
In a press release, the Nairobi Securities Exchange called the listing a "major milestone for KQ and for our capital markets."
The additional 1,034,853,551 shares of Kenya Airways will push the market capitalization of KQ upwards by over KES 13 billion. The Kenya Airways share is cross listed on the Dar-es-Salaam Stock Exchange and the Uganda Securities Exchange and because of that, the newly listed shares are available on all three markets for East Africans to participate in.
In a speech to commemorate the commencement in trading of the new KQ shares, NSE Vice Chairman Mr. Bob Karina said:
The lessons learned during the transaction will prove invaluable in facilitating the integration of the East African capital markets and boosting the seamless trading of cross listed shares.
