Kenya Bankers Association Retain Chairman

The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) has retained Richard Etemesi as the chairman of the banking industry umbrella body for another 12 months. Mr. Etemesi who has served KBA in the same position is also the Chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank, Kenya.

KBA has also nominated and elected a Governing Council, as the Association moves to strengthen its involvement on banking matters and channels through which banks engage their customers.

The association announced last week that all clearing fees on upcountry cheques have been dropped, making the whole country one clearing zone, with two day clearing period.

Kenya Bankers Association and Central Bank of Kenya partnerships on the ‘Cheque Truncation System (CTS)’ and ‘Credit Information Sharing System (CIS)’ have been noted as innovations whose introduction has immensely revolutionized the financial sector in Kenya. This earned the two institutions  a joint nomination for innovation awards by the Ministry of State for Public Service.
