Kenyans Shift To Non-Malt Alcoholic Drinks Denies the Tax-man His Cut

The high number of deaths caused by illicit brews forced that government to give some tax breaks to beer manufacturers so that they could make affordable beer.

Majority of Kenyans have shifted to these tax free non-malt containerized drinks, hurting the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) performance in domestic excise duty this year. Alcohol and beer alone account for over 90% of total domestic excise duty collection.
