Mumias Sugar Company Managing Director Dr. Evans Kidero has resigned. Kidero has resigned as per constitutional requirements of public officers wishing to run for political seats. The former MD is eyeing the Nairobi Governor's seat in the next general election. He has been at the helm of the Nairobi Securities Exchange listed company for eight years.
As manager of the sugar company, Dr. Kidero is known to have turned around the company from a loss making entity to the now renown multi faced company. In earlier interview, Dr. Kidero said he joined Mumias when it was making losses of up to Ksh. 500 million and is leaving when the company is making profits years back to back.
Under his directorship, the company now not only produces sugar but also produces 38 mega watts of electricity putting 12 mega watts to company consumption and discharges about 26 mega watts to the national grid. Dr. Kidero also worked for the Nation Media Group and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
The Mumias Sugar Company Board of Directors appointed Mr. Peter Kebati to replace Dr. Kidero effective 1st July 2012. Mr Kebati was serving as the company's Finance Director at the time of his appointment.
Mumias Sugar posted a pre-tax profit of Ksh. 1.24 billion for the six months ending December 2011 and its share at the NSE has remained steady averaging at Ksh. 6.30 for the month of June.
