Jambo Jet, KQ's low cost carrier has received a route license through Kenya Airways. The license granted by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority approves Jambo Jet to operate air services for passengers and cargo within Kenya and across the continent under FastJet and Air Kenya.
Jambo Jet's entry will intensify competition in the local and regional routes which currently have Fly540, Jetlink and other smaller airlines. Its domestic destinations will be Eldoret, Kisumu, Wajir, Mombasa, Lamu and Malindi.
International Routes
Jambo Jets 16 international destinations will include, Entebbe in Uganda, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Dar-es-salaam, Mwanza and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Bujumbura in Burundi, Zanzibar, Pemba, Antananarivo in Madagascar), Kigali in Rwanda, Hargeisa in Northern Somalia, , Goma and Kisangani in Democratic Republic of Congo, Dzaoudzi and Moroni in Comoros Island and Juba in South Sudan.
However KQ has not yet outlined the range air fares and tariffs for the development that is pending launch before the end of this year (2012). That Kenya Airways is a member of the SkyTeam alliance will guarantee Jambo Jet passengers access to member airlines’ facilities and network, thus the convenience.
Other international carriers have also engaged in the trend of establishing subsidiaries to handle local routes which will free executives with the task of more complicated international travel. It will also be away of optimizing operations while cutting down costs accruing from staff productivity, procurement and fuel expenses.
