Stay young Do Milk is a KES 50 million campaign launched yesterday by Kenya Dairy Processors Association to promote consumption of milk and its products. The campaign aims at showcasing milk and its products as a fashionable drink healthy for the body
Kenya Dairy Processors Association chairman Kipkirui Arap Langat said the campaign will create awareness on health benefits of taking milk among the youth who view it as an old fashion drink. Mr Langat further said the association is seeking the help of authorities to help stop unhygienic raw milk hawking.
Kenya has in the recent past experienced severe milk shortage. Kenya Dairy Managing director, Machira Gichohi said the processors have increased their capacity to take in more milk and effectively deal with milk glut during rainy seasons. To prevent another milk shortage, farmers are being trained to conserve animal feeds. Milk processors have also acquired new technologies to facilitate processing of long life milk.
Kenya’s total milk production is estimated at 4.8 billion litres per year. Dairy companies processed 550 million litres last year.
