Live Below Your Means … and Use the Balance To Increase Your Means

You have heard these words of counsel plenty times before, but have you ever thought of putting that advice into practice and seeing how it works for you? Probably not. It’s not easy to give up all those little “necessities” that you spend quite a bit on every day. You know, the snacks every so often; shoes; unnecessary calls; disproportionate amount of time spent online doing God knows what; etc etc.

These little habits have become so entrenched in our lifestyle over time we don’t even notice when we’re under their spell. Even in tough times when we are supposed to tighten our belts, so to speak, these are the last things on our minds to let go off. It’s become an addiction for us, the spending! We can’t control ourselves…our impulses. Needless to say, a lot of guys out there have a problem with drinking and they hardly realise it. They absolutely have to go out every Friday…at whatever cost. On the other end of the scale you have your typical philandering Don Juans who take it upon themselves to take out any skirt that shows the remotest interest.

The list goes on and on. I’ll admit that I have a few quirks of my own. No one is perfect! But every so often I take a good look at my expenses and realise that some of the stuff I throw money at is utterly inconsequential. After keenly examining the history of my spending it becomes clear to me that some the things I invest a great deal of money on don’t really have a pay-off. Not even emotionally or anything. The only reason I find myself showing up for some tweet-ups is they were at some point fun but have lost their zest over time.

These are exactly the kind of expenses you and I should chuck from our budgets. We can then plough back the savings into some side hustle than will increase our income over time. Pretty soon we’ll be earning ten percent more…and spending ten percent less. If this is not the formula to becoming rich I don’t know what is. I know you’ve probably chalked it up to one of those things that are easier said than done. But I implore you. Try it and you’ll be surprised. It’s not as hard as you think.

Like I always say: there’s more than one road to Damascus…but some will get you these faster!
