Low Ranking Civil Servants Get Pay Rise

133,322 mainstream civil servants and National Youth Service officers get a pay hike after parliament passed Ksh 6.8 billion which was factored in the 2012/2013 budget. The pay increment is the last instalment promised to workers in 2007.

As sourced from Nation Media, civil servants in the job groups A to D which mainly consists of messengers will get between Ksh 1,300 to Ksh 1,600 increase in their salaries. Those in job groups E to H which mainly consists of secretaries will get between Ksh 1,800 to Ksh 3,200 increase in their salaries. Civil servants in the job groups J, K and L which consists of graduates will get a pay hike of between Ksh 4,000 to Ksh 6,000 while those in job groups M and N will get a pay rise of between Ksh 7,000 to Ksh 9,000. This job group consists mainly of doctors and assistant directors. Civil servants in the job group Q and R which consists of chief economists are the highest beneficiaries of the pay rise, getting between Ksh 15,000 to Ksh 24,000 in pay increment. Civil servants in pay group S and T will get a pay rise of between Ksh 13,000 to Ksh 24,000.National Youth Service (NYS) officers will get a pay increment of between 12 to 22 per cent.
